The Fairport Raiders Volleyball Club (FRVC) is nearing the end of its inaugural season. The club, founded by Randy and Tara Shepard, and Mike and Kris Larson, focuses on training elite-level volleyball players in the Fairport area. More than 50 boys and girls compete with FRVC at various levels, including their tournament teams that compete regionally in the Boys 14-Under (Rage), Girls 14-Under (Revolution), and Girls 18-under (Resistance) divisions. The skills and development program currently trains both boys and girls 14 years old and under.
During their first season, the Boys 14-U Fairport Rage team finished tied for third at their Regional competition on March 22, 2015. The team is made up of seventh and eighth grade boys from Johanna Perrin and Martha Brown Middle Schools: Jake D’Agostino, Matt Beiter, Kade Carlson, Ben Coffey, Christopher Hadley, Jake Knapp, Nick Parker, Ryan Parker, Brandon Shepard, and Seth Terzo.
Under the direction of Coaches Emily Crosby and Mary-Chris Arena, the boys showed tremendous growth from the start of the season. Their success earned them a bid to compete at the USA Volleyball Junior Boy’s National Championships in Columbus, Ohio this summer from June 29-July 2, 2015.
The two competitive girls teams- Revolution and Resistance- will be completing their season during the month of April. Fairport Revolution, Girls 14-U, competed solidly all season, winning a Bronze and Silver bracket at two separate tournaments during the year. Fairport Resistance, Girls 14-U, has continued to improve all season long and hope to post their highest finishes at both their April 19 and April 26 tournaments.
The FRVC is very fortunate and appreciative of both John O’Dell, the Fairport High School Boys Varsity head volleyball coach, and Dave Hosenfeld, the FHS Girls Varsity head volleyball coach for their assistance in the program. Coach Hosenfeld currently coaches the Raiders’ Girls 18U team- Fairport Resistance. Coach O’Dell will be coaching Fairport Rage beginning April 1 and continuing through their participation at the Nationals competition in June.
FRVC was rebranded and relaunched following the dissolution of the former Fairport Volleyball Club operated by Michelle Britt. FRVC is appreciative of the efforts of Britt by identifying a need for a club whose goals were to meet the needs of a low-cost, yet competitive, volleyball program in the Fairport area.
Sponsorship opportunities for Fairport Rage are available.
